Discovering Geothermal Potential in Ukraine

Zegen Energy has been engaged by FennoCaledonia to assess multiple hydrocarbon wells in Ukraine for potential conversion to Geothermal energy production to support a local heat network, including school and community buildings. The Assignment is funded by The Finland Ukraine Trust Fund (FUTF), which is directly supported by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and managed by NEFCO. The project is coordinated locally by the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE).

“Despite the ongoing challenges facing the country, the commitment to renewable energy is encouraging and we are delighted to be involved in what is a tremendous opportunity” said Kenny Watt  COO Zegen Energy. The project commenced early June and is due to be completed by year end.

“This assignment demonstrates the growing interest in geothermal as a renewable resource for heating and power generation. The evaluation of end-of-life oil and gas wells creates new value beyond hydrocarbon production” say Kirsten Pasturel CEO ZeGen Energy, “and is an area we have been actively assessing.“
